My StoryHi, I’m Lady of the Lake Country (besides Padmé and Naboo, I have a soft spot for Arthurian legends) and my costuming story starts with Star Wars. As a kid, I fell in love with the saga, and when the prequels premiered, Padmé Amidala’s wardrobe captured my heart entirely. I was so determined to have one of her costumes for the Episode I opening day that I raided my own closet and my mom’s fabric stash and hand-stitched and hot-glued something into existence. My mom kindly took over for the next two premieres.
I didn’t seriously learn to sew until grad school, where auditing clothing construction and costume courses became a welcome escape from a degree I wasn’t thrilled about finishing. For a while my sewing was sporadic and I never felt ready to start on the costumes I’d always dreamed about. Then one year I found at least myself no longer in school and I decided to make our Halloween costumes—because I had to start with something—and after that I didn’t stop. My training since then has been wonderfully eclectic — many hours at the University of YouTube, one on one tutoring, embroidery machine classes, and hands-on experience in tailoring, alterations, and teaching at a makerspace and Bernina dealers.
My first major cosplay came in 2019: a mashup of Disney’s Belle ballgown and Padmé’s meadow picnic gown, sewn partly from fabric my mom had originally used in the picnic costume she made for me years before. It was cheap fabric and pure joy and the fulfillment of a little girl dream.
Since then I’ve built a few dozen cosplays, competed and won awards, judged competitions, presented panels, run workshops, and guested at conventions. But what lights me up most is the sharing — hearing other cosplayers describe their process with passion, watching a student’s face when they learn a new skill, or catching that look of astonishment when I tell someone I made every single piece I’m wearing.
This site is very much a work in progress — right now you’ll find an introduction, a small gallery of my costumes, the start of the research gallery, and a way to get in touch. But my hope is to grow it into something much bigger: a genuine resource for fellow crafters who share my passion for recreating high-level Star Wars costumes. I am always learning and I could never have come this far without those along the way who have shared their resources and encouragement. There’s so much knowledge worth sharing, and this feels like the right place to start. It may take a while to get there, so I appreciate your patience — the best costumes aren’t rushed, and neither is this!
